Abraham Lincoln was the least-experienced executive to serve as President: he was a trial lawyer in a two-man firm, and had only six weeks of military service, in a militia when he was 23. Immediately following his inauguration on March 4, 1861, he was plunged into the crisis at Ft. Sumter.
