GEORGE SHULMAN is a professor of political theory and American Studies at the Gallatin School of New York University. His teaching and writing emphasize the role of narrative in culture and politics. His first book, Radicalism and Reverence: Gerrard Winstanley and the English Revolution, was published by the University of California Press. His second book, American Prophecy: Race and Redemption in American Political Culture, was published by the University of Minnesota Press in the fall of 2008. This colloquium is part of the U.Va.
