Grace Hale, Professor of History, University of Virginia

Grace Hale specializes in Twentieth Century American cultural history and the American South. She has written Making Whiteness: The Culture of Segregation in the South, 1890-1940 (1999), and is co-editor of Gender and Twentieth Century Southern History (2003). Her current projects include Rebel Rebel: Outsiders in America, 1945-2000 and Freedom Now! The Civil Rights Movement in America.
