Kimberly Phillips, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Brooklyn College, discusses the role of soldiers in American Culture. Phillips' book, War! What Is It Good For?: Black Freedom Struggles and the U.S. Military From World War II to Iraq, traces African Americans' campaign for "the right to fight," which forced Harry Truman to issue his 1948 executive order for equality in the armed forces.
