Chris Lu is a senior fellow in presidential studies at the Miller Center. From 2014 to 2017, Lu served as the deputy secretary of labor, having been confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate. Lu was only the second Asian American in history to be the deputy secretary of a cabinet agency. From 2009 to 2013, Lu was the White House cabinet secretary and assistant to the president, serving as President Obama's primary liaison to the federal departments and agencies. During the first term of the Obama Administration, Lu co-chaired the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Prior to his service in the executive branch, Lu worked for then-Senator Obama, first as the legislative director, and then as the acting chief of staff. During the 2008 presidential primaries, Lu was tasked by Senator Obama to begin planning for a possible presidential transition. 

Robert Bruner is Distinguished Professor of Business Administration and Dean Emeritus of the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and a Miller Center faculty affiliate. He has also held visiting appointments at  Columbia University in the United States, INSEAD in France and IESE in Spain. He has a forthcoming visiting appointment at Harvard. He is the author, co-author, or editor of more than 20 books on finance, management and teaching. A faculty member since 1982 and winner of leading teaching awards at the University of Virginia and within the Commonwealth of Virginia, he teaches and conducts research in finance and management.
