George W. Romney was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, on July 8, 1907, and served as governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969. He was also a candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 1968.

President Richard M. Nixon appointed Romney secretary of housing and urban development in 1969, and Romney remained in that post until 1973. He later became founding chairman of the National Volunteer Center, based in Arlington, Virginia, which merged with the Points of Light Foundation in 1991.

George Romney died on July 26, 1995.
