Bruce Babbitt (1993–2001)
Bruce Babbitt served under President Clinton as secretary of the interior from 1993 to 2001.
Babbitt held several elected offices in his home state of Arizona before become entering the Clinton administration. He served as state attorney general from 1975 to 1978 and as governor from 1978 to 1987.
Born in Flagstaff, Arizona, in 1938, Babbitt received his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame University in 1960. He earned a master's degree in 1963 at the University of Newcastle in England, where he was a Marshall Scholar. Babbitt also received a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1965. He also practiced environmental law with the firm of Latham & Watkins.
