Event Details

Laurin Henry, a scholar from the University of Chicago and author of Presidential Transitions, discusses the scholarship and study of presidential transitions. Henry's lecture starts with the history of the field. Its origins, he argues, are found during the Truman administration. He discusses his book, current changes in the field, and what he sees are the causes of these alterations. After summarizing the transitions starting from President Truman to President Reagan, Henry concludes the lecture portion of the forum offering his opinion of what changes need to be made to the presidential transitory process. During the questioning session, Henry answers queries concerning transitions in agencies, and the presidential cabinet. This forum, held after the completion of the Miller Center National Commission on Presidential Transition, precedes its publication.
