Larry Terry joined theWeldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia in 2018 from Texas, where he worked to improve the lives of citizens in the Dallas region and beyond, creating practical partnerships with elected officials, public servants, and community leaders to address poverty and other community issues, including launching the Community Leadership Academy, the nation’s first peer-based citizen police officer leadership training program. His passion is research-based, outcome-driven programs and services that advance the priorities of the University of Virginia in serving the Commonwealth, forming lasting partnerships with citizens, and building vibrant, connected communities. Terry’s research, publications, teaching, and educational achievements focus on leading and managing public organizations, housing reform, and community engagement and public trust. Prior to his position at UNT Dallas, Terry served as an assistant professor of public administration at both Long Island University-Brooklyn and Arizona State University.
