Event Details

Begun in 2000, the Miller Center Fellowship program funds scholars completing dissertations that employ history to shed light on American politics and public policy, foreign relations, and the impact of global affairs on the United States, media and politics, and the role of the presidency in shaping American political development.  A fundamental objective of the fellowship program is to nurture cutting edge scholarship, and the Miller Center pairs each fellow with a “dream” mentor, a leading scholar in the fellow’s field, with whom they collaborate during the fellowship year.  The National Fellowship has become one of the most prestigious awards a young scholar working in the fields of modern American history and political science can attain, with now over 100 alumni of the program currently holding tenure track positions at the leading universities in the United States.

The annual spring conference brings the fellows together with their mentors to present the fruits of their fellowship year.  You can read more about the fellows and their projects here, or click here to read the conference agenda

The final class of Miller Center National Fellowship graduates will present at the spring fellowship conference on May 11-12, 2017. Beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year, the National Fellowship Program, a longstanding initiative of the Miller Center, will fall under the leadership of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation at U.Va.. The Jefferson Scholars Foundation, created in 1980, currently offers the premier graduate fellowship and undergraduate scholarship at the University.
