Director's Internship
Calling all UVA students interested in working for the Miller Center of Public Affairs
The Miller Center is accepting applications for the 2025 Director’s Internship. The student in this position will work directly with the Miller Center Director & CEO, William J. Antholis, and the executive office starting part-time during the spring semester (as early as March 2025, depending on availability) and starting full-time (up to 40 hours per week) in June 2025.
Primary responsibilities include conducting research, writing briefs, and drafting remarks for the Director. In 2025, a central focus of this internship will be to support research and planning for the Miller Center’s second Conference on the American Presidency (building on the first conference held in 2023), which will bring together senior government officials, scholars, and journalists in September 2025 to explore ideas to support a more responsible and effective American presidency. This internship will start part-time in the spring in order to begin getting the 2025 Director’s Intern involved in planning for the conference as soon as possible.
Other duties include supporting the Director’s executive assistant, collaborating with other students engaged with the Center, and other administrative and clerical assistance, as needed. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and an interest in history or politics is preferred. The successful applicant will be professional, reliable, able to work independently, have a positive attitude, and have strong written and verbal communication skills. This position will report directly to the Director.
This position will pay $17/hour. The anticipated dates of this position are March 10, 2025 to August 15, 2025. This will be an in-person/hybrid position. Only current UVA students are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to rising third and rising fourth year students.
The Miller Center is a nonpartisan affiliate of the University of Virginia that explores how the U.S. presidency addresses national priorities and engages scholars and practitioners with students and the public to help solve problems. Our scholars engage in research and writing that provides unparalleled insight into contemporary public policy debates. We are the sole source in the country of the oral histories of each presidential administration since Jimmy Carter's, and the annotated transcripts of the secret White House recordings made by Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon.
