Henry Cisneros was secretary of housing and urban development during the Clinton presidency from 1993 to 1997.

Cisneros earned his bachelor's degree in 1968 and his master's degree in urban planning in 1970, both from Texas A&M University. He also received a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government and a Ph.D. in public administration from George Washington University.

Cisneros began his public career as an administrative assistant in the San Antonio City Manager's office, but was soon named a White House Fellow. From 1975 to 1981, Cisneros was elected to and served on the San Antonio City Council. He left that post to serve as mayor of San Antonio, a job he held for four terms, from 1981 to 1989.

Cisneros left public life in 1989 to form an asset management firm, Cisneros Asset Management Company. He stayed with the firm until his appointment to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development. When he left the Clinton administration, he was president of Univision from 1997 to 2000.
