Director's Internship

Director's Internship

Calling all UVA students interested in working for the Miller Center of Public Affairs

The Director's Internship provides an opportunity each summer for a UVA undergraduate student to work directly with Miller Center Director and CEO William Antholis and the executive office.

The Miller Center is now accepting applications for the 2024 Director’s Internship. The student in this position will work directly with the Miller Center Director and CEO, William Antholis, and the executive office for up to 40 hours per week. Primary responsibilities include conducting research, writing briefs, and drafting remarks for the director.

In 2024, this internship will be particularly focused on two major Miller Center initiatives, including (1) supporting planning for the Government Leaders Forum, which will convene federal government leaders to discuss challenges and opportunities facing their agencies; and (2) supporting ongoing convenings and research as part of the follow-up to the Miller Center’s 2023 conference, "Toward a More Responsible and Effective Presidency."

Other duties include supporting the director’s executive assistant, collaborating with other students engaged with the Center, and other administrative and clerical assistance as needed. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and an interest in history or politics is preferred. The successful applicant will be professional, reliable, able to work independently, have a positive attitude, and have strong written and verbal communication skills. This position will report directly to the Director.

The position will pay $17/hour. The anticipated dates of this position are June 3, 2024 to August 16, 2024. This will be an in-person/hybrid position. Only current UVA students are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to rising third and fourth year students.

The Miller Center is a national, nonpartisan institute that seeks to expand understanding of the U.S. presidency, policy, and political history, providing critical insights for the nation’s governance challenges. Our scholars engage in research and writing that provides unparalleled insight into contemporary public policy debates. We are the sole source in the country of the oral histories of each presidential administration since Jimmy Carter's, and the annotated transcripts of the secret White House recordings made by Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon.
