An Irritant to Putin, Navalny's Death Will Have No Immediate Effect

Alexei Navalny, the most prominent dissident in Vladimir Putin’s Russia, died last week while jailed in a penal colony near the Arctic Circle. The immediate cause of death remains mysterious. A lawyer and anti-corruption activist in Russia, Navalny, 47, was prosecuted for embezzlement after surviving being poisoned with Novichok, a Soviet-era nerve agent.
