Event Details

John M. Bridgeland, an assistant to the president and director of USA Freedom Corps during the first presidential administration of George W. Bush, considers how we can strengthen the civic health of our nation. While the unprecedented increase in voter turnout among Americans of all ages was a hopeful sign that we are shifting from a nation of spectators to a nation of citizens, Bridgeland worries that the election has left national division that could thwart efforts at civic engagement. We must do more if we are to become a unified nation of doers, givers and joiners. Bridgeland presently serves as CEO of Civic Enterprises and is a fellow at Harvard's Institute of Politics. Before his service in the federal government he practiced law in the New York and Paris offices of Davis Polk & Wardwell.
