Ann Compton

Compton is a former news reporter and White House correspondent for ABC News. A distinguished and highly respected 40- year veteran of the White House press corps, she was the first woman assigned by a television network to cover the White House. Her tenure stretched across seven presidents as well as innumerable life-changing and globe-altering events, including the end of the Cold War. During the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Compton was the only broadcaster allowed to remain on board Air Force One after President George W. Bush was advised not to return to Washington, DC.

Marc Short

A Miller Center Practitioner Senior Fellow, Short served as White House director of legislative and intergovernmental affairs and assistant to President Donald J. Trump until July 2018.

Short previously served as chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence. His other public service included roles as a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security; chief of staff for Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison; and an aide to then-Congressman Mike Pence, who named him chief of staff for the House Republican Conference in 2009. Short has also worked for McGuire Woods Consulting and for Freedom Partners, a nonprofit, Koch-funded 501(c)(6) chamber of commerce located in Arlington, Virginia. He served as the organization's president from 2011 to 2016.

Short, who was born in Virginia, graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1992 and earned an MBA at UVA’s Darden School of Business.
