DEREK CATSAM focuses his research and writing on race and politics in the United States and southern Africa. He is currently working on books on the Freedom Rides, the boycotts in the U.S. and South Africa in the 1940s and 1950s, the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa in the 1980s, and sports and society in the U.S. since the Civil War. Catsam teaches at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and has held fellowships at Rhodes University in South Africa, the American Political Science Association, and the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. A book signing will follow his Forum.
