James Cannon was an assistant to President Ford for Domestic Affairs and executive director of the Domestic Council during the Ford administration. He is the author of Time and Chance: Gerald Ford's Appointment with History. Cannon began his journalism career with the Gloversville (NY) Leader-Republican and continued at the Baltimore Sun, and Time and Newsweek magazines. In his political career he was assistant to Gov. Nelson Rockefeller of New York and chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker.
