Prisoners: A Muslim and a Jew Across the Middle East Divide

Jeffrey Goldberg

Wednesday, October 25, 2006
{7:00AM} (EDT)
Event Details

Jeffrey Goldberg, a correspondent for The New Yorker, joined the Israeli army and served as a prison guard at Ketziot, the largest jail in the Middle East. There he began an extended dialogue with a prisoner named Rafiq, one of the PLO leaders in Ketziot. Their conversations, continued over years, demonstrate how their willingness to confront religious, cultural, and political differences made possible a true (if tenuous) friendship. Goldberg's two part article, "In the Party of God," which appeared in the October 14 & 21 and October 28, 2002 issues of The New Yorker, stands as the definitive analysis of the reach of Hezbollah.
