David Rothkopf served two years as managing director of Kissinger Associates, and previously as a deputy under secretary of commerce for international trade policy. He is presently a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. His book Running the World: The Inside Story of the National Security Council and the Architects of American Power, examines the role played by McGeorge Bundy, Brent Scowcroft, Anthony Lake, Sandy Berger, and above all by Henry Kissinger, in the formulation of American foreign policy through their management of the National Security Council.
