Event Details

Elisabeth Sifton, is senior vice president of Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. She is the author of The Serenity Prayer: Faith and Politics in Times of Peace and War. She is the daughter of Reinhold Niebuhr, who wrote the Serenity Prayer in 1943 for a church service in a New England village. Its appeal for grace, courage, and wisdom became famous the world over. In her book, Elisabeth Sifton reclaims the true history of the Serenity Prayer and tells of efforts made by the brave men and women who, like Niebuhr, devoted their lives to the causes of social justice, racial equality, and religious freedom in a world spiraling in and out of economic depression and war. A book signing will follow her forum.
