These two Republican members of the 1996 Miller Center Commission on the selection of federal judges will discuss the appointment of judges during the George W. Bush administration. Both men are considered foremost legal spokesmen and authorities.Harold R. Tyler is of counsel at Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler. He was assistant U.S. attorney general from 1960 to 1961 and U.S. district judge for the Southern District of New York from 1962 to 1975. He has also served in positions of responsibility in the American Bar Association.Fred F. Fielding is senior partner with the law firm of Wiley, Rein & Fielding. From 1981 to 1986 he served as counsel to President Ronald Reagan. He was also deputy counsel in the Nixon and Ford administrations from 1972 to 1974, and from 1970 to 1972 he served as assistant counsel to President Nixon.
