Eric Patashnik is associate professor of Politics at the University of Virginia. He is the author of Putting Trust in the U.S. Budget: Federal Trust Funds and the Politics of Commitment (Cambridge University Press, 2000), the first comprehensive study of the political importance of federal government trust funds, such as Social Security and Medicare. Patashnik joined the U.Va. faculty in 2002 after previously holding faculty positions at UCLA and Yale University. He has also served as a research fellow at the Brookings Institution. From 1989 to 1991, he served as a legislative staff member for the U.S. House Subcommittee on Elections.
