In partnership with the University of Virginia's Center for the Liberal Arts (CLA), the Miller Center hosted the UVA Democracy Biennial Fellows program. After a competitive search process, five middle and high school teachers from all corners of the Commonwealth of Virginia were selected to attend the UVA Democracy Biennial, which took place virtually on September 24 and 25, 2021.

After the Biennial, these teachers worked with Professor Marc Selverstone of the Miller Center and Stefanie Georgakis Abbott of UVA's Karsh Institute of Democracy to develop curricular materials centered around the Biennial’s themes of social and economic mobility, systemic reform, and the relationship between capitalism and democracy—with the goal of enhancing the teaching of democracy and democratic principles in secondary-school classrooms across the state.
