"Steve" Early was a United Press and Associated Press reporter; White House press secretary from March 1933 to March 1945; vice president of the Pullman Company from 1945 to 1949; U.S. under secretary and later deputy secretary of defense from May 1949 to September 1950; and acting White House Press Secretary in December 1950.
