First Lady Betty Ford dines with General Alexander Haig in the White House. When Gerald Ford first took office, Alexander Haig was his chief of staff, a post that he also held during the last eighteen months of the Nixon presidency. Haig served in the Ford administration for only six weeks before Ford appointed him commander of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) in Europe.
