Hoover Campaigning

October 31, 1928
Source: The Library of Congress

During the presidential campaign of 1928, Republican Party nominee, Herbert Hoover, made seven well-crafted radio speeches to the nation. He was portrayed as an efficient engineer, a successful self-made man, and a skilled administrator; perhaps his greatest advantage was his association with the Harding and Coolidge administrations and their legacy of economic success. He defeated Democratic Party nominee, Al Smith, to win the presidency.
